MATCH PREVIEW | Basildon Town vs Cannons Wood

MATCH PREVIEW | Basildon Town vs Cannons Wood

Wayne Saliba

Three games unbeaten. Two sides separated by just two points. And a score to settle from last season.

Cannons Wood return to Division One South action on Wednesday 6th October as we make the trip to face Basildon Town, with just two points separating the sides in the table.
It is another important league fixture for both clubs, with Cannons Wood currently sitting 13th on 13 points from nine games, while Basildon Town are just behind in 14th with 11 points from nine.

FORM
Cannons Wood head into Wednesday night in good form, currently three league games unbeaten after picking up two wins and a draw.

The latest result was a frustrating 0-0 draw away to Burnham Ramblers. While we were unable to find the breakthrough, another clean sheet and another point on the road kept the unbeaten run going.

Basildon Town, meanwhile, will be looking for a response after suffering back-to-back home defeats without scoring. That will give Cannons Wood confidence heading into the fixture, but Basildon will undoubtedly be determined to put that run right.

With the two clubs sitting so close together in the standings, three points could prove valuable as both sides look to start climbing the Division One South table.

HEAD-TO-HEAD
There is also some unfinished business for Cannons Wood.

Basildon Town completed the league double over us last season, winning 1-0 away from home before recording a 4-2 victory on their own ground.

Those two results will provide plenty of motivation this time around as Cannons Wood look to show how far the squad has progressed and put last season's meetings firmly behind us.

SOMETHING TO PROVE
Cannons Wood have shown encouraging signs in recent weeks, with the side becoming increasingly difficult to beat.

Wednesday night now presents another opportunity to turn that solid form into three points.

Basildon's recent home record may give us encouragement, but previous meetings have shown exactly how dangerous they can be. Nothing will be taken for granted.
